The farm that reminded me of my youth: Confused! Do we like cars, art, horses, biodiversity, Dutch architecture or wine? What?! Whatever it might be, they have certainly not capped any expense in guaranteeing that they are superior in every regard.
The estate is like Disneyland for grownups and Sarah was our tour guide. Friendly at first, the android in her crept up and took over. I guess after her long tenure at the estate these things become naturally tedious and monotonous. There are a lot of interesting facts about L’Ormarins, from the thousand plus collection of cars to the thousand plus collection of horses and thousand plus art collections and the very interesting way their red wine gets fermented via vertical (technical term here) with a rotational roof and whatnot. Read more here. This by far captured my imagination. This and the ‘The Eternal Kiss’ by Auguste Rodin sculpture that had me half wet (it was raining and I had to take a photo).
It did not end there, as we sat down at the tasting table, I noticed that the tasting room was perfectly lined by Pierneef-original prints (2/8, all of them), more than 40(?) in just this one room …. I think my jaw can still be found underneath one of the tables somewhere in the tasting room.
After all the wines were introduced and we almost wrapped up, I got the opportunity to have a one-on-one with Sarah. She slightly warmed up after a probing session into her passion for wine and I had the privilege to sample a little of her shine. It’s so easy to lose your sparkle out there if you forget your inner light. I must commend all the ladies from L’Ormarins that clearly follows brand standards and offer a valuable service far surpassing any other at estates of the same stature.
This one is perfect for groups and individuals who want to spend the day transported, quite literally, to another country of luxury and decadence and loose themselves in it.
Note that characters’ names have been changed to protect their livelihood.
